How to make a wedding favor
By Barbara Kelly

When it comes to wedding favors, you will find that the possibilities are endless. You can save a lot of money by buying your supplies in bulk and then making them yourself. If you go online and you search for wedding favors you will find that most of them with cost anywhere from $1-$6 for each guest. Now if you were to buy in bulk pre-made favors you would spend hundreds, if not thousands on the favors. You can easily make your wedding favors and save a little money. The best thing about making the wedding favors is that you are able to get creative with them.

First, you will need to decide on what kind of favor you will want. You may want an edible or keepsake for the favor. When it comes to edibles, you will find that your creativity will definitely shine through. You can do so much with chocolate, candies, and even cookies. If you wanted to give your guests chocolate, you can easily purchase some molds, which can be found at craft stores for like a dollar or two, and then the chocolate. You may spend a few dollars on cheap chocolate that will melt right away, but it is great to work with. You can get creative by using colored white chocolate. You can make chocolate suckers, candies, spoons, and more when it comes to chocolate.

Chocolate literally has endless possibilities. Cookies are the same. If you are really on a tight budget, you can make wedding cookies that look like a cake and has your name and wedding date on it or you can make gingerbread bride and grooms. If you are having a fall wedding, gingerbread cookies are a must have favor.

You can purchase an inexpensive cookie cutter and then decorate them to look like a bride or the groom. When it comes to keepsakes you can always go to your local craft store and take a look around at what ideas they offer, as well as, the merchandize that they sell. You can get inexpensive trinket boxes or baskets that would look great with bow and Jordan almonds (the traditional wedding favor).

When it comes to generating some ideas, you can go online and see what others are doing for their wedding favors. You can even search online for homemade wedding favors and see what ideas you generate. In fact, if you don't have much time you can always get bulk candies like Jordan Almonds and then bunch them by yourself with some tulle and ribbon. This way you can have a favor that doesn't take much to make and it'll save you a little bit of money.

Most wedding favors seem simple ideas; however, when you are making them in bulk you will find that it can be quite time consuming. You may want to get your wedding party together or a small group of family members to help you make the favors. When it comes to saving some time on the wedding favors you will want to do the assembly line. Like one purchase places the candies on the tulle, the next person ties the tulle together, the next person places the ribbon and tag on the bundle, and the last person curls the ribbon to look pretty.

This is a perfect example of how to make 500 favors in just a few hours. Depending on how many you have to make and your time frame, you may want to have two teams (bride's and the groom's) and have a race to see who can make the quota first. Then the winning team can have some drinks and relax until the other team's finished with the half. Making wedding favors doesn't have to be boring, but you can make it interesting, fun, and still get the work done.
