How to Choose the Right Wedding Favors
By Barbara Kelly

Choosing the right wedding favors is not a difficult task. You simply need to know what you can afford, and what your guest's tastes are. If you know what you can afford then you know the price range of the favors you can purchase. If you know what your guest's tastes are you can purchase items that they will appreciate.

Wedding favors are gifts that are given by the bride and groom to every wedding guest. Wedding favors are a way of thanking the guests for being a part of the bride and groom's special day.

Traditionally wedding favors are timeless keepsakes that hold a special significance to the bride or groom. For example, some grooms give out shirts to the male guests that bear the insignia of the groom's favorite football team. A bride may hand out bookmarks with a theme of her religion to all the female guests. Wedding favors can also be from both the bride and the groom and be appropriate for all guests. An example of a wedding favor given to every guest would be scented candles with a special message on an attached card from both the bride and groom.

The wedding favor is a reminder of the rehearsal dinner and the ceremony years after the wedding has ended, which is why it is important to choose the right wedding favors for your wedding. There are many different kinds of wedding favors to choose from and you want to choose ones that reflect the style of the wedding and the style of the bride and groom. If the wedding is casual choose casual wedding favors, if the wedding is elegant choose elegant wedding favors. An elegant wedding favor may overwhelm a casual ceremony and a casual wedding favor will appear out of place at a fancy wedding.

The best way to choose an appropriate wedding favor is to choose a traditional wedding favor. A traditional wedding favor is always in style and is acceptable in all situations. Some examples of traditional wedding favors are ribbons and chocolates. Ribbons have a historical tradition in marriage rooted in Elizabethan England. Ribbons tied in a knot symbolize marriage, gold and silver for royal weddings and blue and white for the common people. Chocolates are traditional wedding favors that are very popular. You can purchase chocolates that are heart shaped or have other significant wedding related shapes. However you must be aware that chocolate melts so consider that if the event is being held in a warm outdoor setting.

If your wedding has a theme you can customize your favors to complement that theme. You can also personalize your wedding favors by adding a special message to your guests. Some companies will inscribe a message on your favors for a reasonable price.

You can make wedding favors part of the table decoration and put them next to the table flowers to create a pleasing visual display. You can also pile wedding favors in baskets by the door with a note to remind guests to take one before leaving. You could also have children go around to each table and pass out wedding favors.

It is important to order wedding favors as soon as you reach a decision because suppliers are usually very busy. Placing your order early will allow plenty of time for your favors to arrive before the rehearsal dinner.

Wedding favors are an appropriate way to thank your guests and to give them a lasting memory of your wedding. If you can afford wedding favors you should give them. How much they cost is not as important as how significant they are to you and what they express to your guests. If you keep your guest's tastes in mind, surely you will choose a gift that pleases them.
