It Is All in the Way You Say It – Wedding Invitation Wordings
By Barbara Kelly
We all use words every day to communicate and express ourselves so it goes without saying that on your Wedding Day you want to find the right words that will properly convey the meaning of the day. This day is supposed to be one of the happiest of your life and one that you and all your guests should remember in the years to come. As there are many kinds of weddings that take place it is important to choose the right words that will set the tone for the kind of day that you expect.
The invite will be clearly set out in an easy-to-read format, with the intentions and expectations clearly defined in as simple language as possible. This is also important when choosing the wedding invitation wordings as the couple would want as little confusion as possible. There are many ways that you can choose to word your invitation; here are some examples of a few:
The Opening Lines
The opening lines will denote who is hosting the wedding. This may include the names of the Bride and Groom and their parents, only one set of parents, only the Bride and Groom, step-parents etcetera. These wedding invitation wordings are important as they give the guest the required information of who to thank for the special day. There are many ways that the host may convey their invitation and words and phrases such as "request the pleasure of your company", "joy", "special day", "proud", "celebrate", "request the honour of" can be used here.
The Bulk of the Invitation
The bulk of the invitation will include the information of where the ceremony will be held, what time guests are expected to arrive, the standard of dress required and who and where to reply to. Wedding invitation wordings used here should be simple and clear and set out in a manner that is easy to follow and easy to understand. In some cases the couple may choose to add directions if they feel that many of their guests will have difficulty in finding the place where the ceremony will take place. Should they do this it is crucial to keep these as simple as possible.
The Reply Card
The R.S.V.P. or Reply Card is almost as important as the invitation itself. This will give the couple a clear idea of who will be in attendance. As with your wedding invitation wordings it is vital that this be easy to read and understand. Many times couples will try to use fancy phrasing that will only confuse the guest and create problems when incorrect information is returned. Along with this reply card a stamped, self-addressed envelope to should be included for the ease and convenience of the guest to reply to your invite.
Just from this simple explanation one can see that wedding invitation wordings are highly important. Your invitation is the first formal announcement of the day and will set the expected tone for your occasion. By choosing words that are simple, clear and easy to understand you will start off on the right foot. There will be so many other arrangements and plans that will need organization and energy that you will not have the time to deal with disgruntled guests who have been given confusing and conflicting information
