A wedding planner is made a professional by the certification(s) they have and the experience they have gained. Even if used only for consultations, every wedding could use the help of a wedding planner. Responsibilities of a Wedding Planner
A professional wedding planner is responsible for discussing the general theme of the wedding with the bride and groom, arranging all aspects of décor and menu, and implementing the entire schedule on time. To achieve this, a professional wedding planner must be creative, able to think on their feet, and be extremely organized. They must also be flexible enough to handle complications or unexpected things that may occur, and they must be very knowledgeable about different religious (or non religious) wedding practices.

A theme related discussion should include colors of brides maids dressed, preferences for the groomsmen's tuxedos, if there is an over all theme (such as casino, sea side, castle, etc.), number of guests, where the guests are from, whether there will be formal invitations, if the bride and groom would like to use a website, and perhaps even more key facts need to be discussed with a professional wedding coordinator. Once these topics are decided, the professional wedding planner can get to work, making the day as perfect as possible.
Décor and Menu
A professional wedding planner will have an extensive list of contacts in all areas of the menu and décor of the wedding; they will know florists, caterers, photographers, dress boutique owners, tuxedo rental and sales agents and even more people that will make planning this portion of the wedding hassle free. A professional wedding planner can take the bride and grooms choices and preferences to each vender and ensure that their needs are met for the best price. He or she can coordinate all the vendor's efforts to ensure the wedding runs smoothly from the arrival of guests until the last song is played at the reception.

For a bride and groom to hire the best wedding planner for their special day they should have a brief but concise list of questions ready to ask their prospective coordinator. Some of these questions should cover such issues as the extent of the coordinator's involvement (do they plan the entire event including fittings, rehearsals, receptions, photographers, entertainment, etc.), how much they charge for their services, if you will be working with the coordinator alone or with employees also, and any other wedding specific issues such as out of town attendants or out of town wedding/reception.
A quality professional wedding planner can not only handle any obstacle, but also be very eager to help make this special day a happy once in a lifetime experience, because it is!
