Simplifying a Traditional American Wedding
By Barbara Kelly
Brides are never heard to complain that they wish they had done less for their wedding. When hit with the prospect of planning a wedding many couples begin to question the need for a traditional American wedding and often even feel like eloping.
A wedding does take a lot of time, energy and money to plan. There are many frustrations and arguments that will occur during the planning but when the wedding day arrives there is nothing more beautiful and memorable than a traditional American wedding. The bride and groom will always be happy they made the effort for the most important day of their life.
Planning a Traditional American Wedding
The most basic way to simplify planning an American wedding is to find a professional wedding planner. The couple should interview several wedding planners and find one that they communicate well with, understands their wants and desires, and has great references. The wedding planner will know what needs to get done, when and how to keep everything run efficiently.
The planner will also know reputable businesses to deal with for the various aspects of the wedding. This can prevent many nightmare mistakes from occurring the day of the wedding. If a wedding planner is not affordable for the couple, a wedding planner book will provide basically the same information. These books will have many suggestions for the traditional American wedding.
Basics of a Traditional American Wedding
The traditional American wedding is held in a church with the bride wearing a white gown and the groom in a tuxedo. There are typically four to twelve attendants and a flower girl and ring bearer. Everyone is dressed formally and appropriately for a church setting. Flowers will decorate the building and the bride and her attendants will carry bouquets. The bride’s father or other significant relative will give her away and will join the bride’s friends and family on one side of the church. The grooms family and friends will sit on the other side. In some churches seating will vary from this but will still be formal.
The minister or priest will have a ceremony which is traditionally used in that specific church. These ceremonies can be altered a small amount but are traditionally used as written. The ceremonies have been used for years and those attending the wedding will know and understand the commitment the couple is making to one another. The traditional American wedding will provide an opportunity for family and friends to feel like a part of the wedding and will be remembered for years to come.
